Banda Aceh became one of eight pilot project area for paid plastic bag program in Indonesia. This program imposed by the government to reduce the amount of plastic waste that is harmful to the Earth.
This paid plastic bag program officially launched by Banda Aceh Mayor Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal in Suzuya Mall, Sunday, February 21, 2016. “Today, we formally launched the program for paid plastic bags in Banda Aceh,” said Illiza.

On that occasion, the mayor also urged visitors to civilize back using own basket from home when goes shopping. Assisted by a number of Environment Ambassador Aceh, Illiza helped handing out dozens of shopping bags made of cloth to the visitors.
