The Story of ‘Rescue Ship’ Al-Tsunami Dome

The tragedy left a variety of magical stories that could not be reached by human reason. One of them was the story of the move of an 80-ton dome in the village of Gurah, Peukan Bada.

Tsunami Aceh in the previous 2004 was the biggest disaster in the 21st century. Banda Aceh became one of the worst cities hit by the big waves. The entire city was devastated and took hundreds of thousands of lives.

The tragedy left a variety of magical stories that could not be reached by human reason. One of them was the story of the move of an 80-ton dome in the village of Gurah, Peukan Bada. The dome was originally the Jamik Mosque dome in the village of Lam Teungoh, Peukan Bada, Aceh Besar.

When the large wave hit the coastal areas of Aceh, the Jamik Lam Teungoh mosque was destroyed, all that remained was a 4×4 diameter dome. The dome was then dragged by a tsunami wave as far as 2.5 kilometers. So that it was stranded in the middle of the residents’ rice fields, at the foothills of Gurah Village.

This dome had also become a salvor. When dragged by a tsunami wave, some residents survived after climbing on this dome. In addition, when it was first discovered, there were several quran inside the dome.

There was a mystical story behind the move of this large dome. One day, a visitor said that he could see that the dome was moved by four people wearing the white robes. They were Hamzah Fansuri and the three of his students.

Hamzah Fansuri was known as one of the famous Sufi scholars in the era of the Aceh Darussalam Kingdom. The location of his tomb is not far from the location of this dome stranded, precisely in Ujong Pancu Village, Peukan Bada.

Regardless of the process of moving the dome, the majority of Acehnese who believe in Islam believe that this is a proof of the power of God. Every impossible can be possible with His will.

Become a tourist destination

To commemorate the enormity of the tsunami disaster, the dome was not moved. Its original form is still maintained without any slightest improvement. Therefore, the residents of Gurah Village gave the name Al-Tsunami to this dome. Al-Tsunami Dome.

The owner of the rice field where the dome is stranded has donated the land to become a tourist destination. This location has been laid out and a road has been made to make it easier for tourists to go to the location, in the middle of the rice fields.

The location of the Al-Tsunami Dome is on the outskirts of Banda Aceh City. It is located 5 kilometers from the tourist destination of Ulee Lheue. Towards the 14th of Aceh Tsunami Remembrance, this location began to be crowded with local and foreign tourists.[]
