The story behind Tugu Simpang Lima Banda Aceh

Tugu Simpang Lima is only 900 meters from Baiturrahman Grand Mosque

Tugu Simpang Lima (the five-way intersection monument) is one of the icons of Banda Aceh City. This monument was first built in 1994, during Banda Aceh Government was lead by Mayor Said Hussain Al-Haj. In 2017, the monument was renovated and the shape was changed to what it is now.

Tugu Simpang Lima is designed with five pillars that refer to the five pillars of Islam. Each pillar is decorated with pintoe Aceh (Acehnese door) symbol. For the people of Aceh, this monument holds a million historical moments because it is often used as a location for delivering aspirations and demonstrations.

Tugu Simpang Lima is only 900 meters from Baiturrahman Grand Mosque. This monument is the meeting point for five protocol roads in Banda Aceh, namely Jalan Tgk. H. M. Daud Beureuh, T. Panglima Polem, Sri Ratu Safiatuddin, Jalan Pante Pirak, dan Jalan T.Hamzah Bendahara.

When the lights are on at night, Tugu Simpang Lima looks stunning. Frequently do many residents of Banda Aceh and tourists are taking photos with the background of this monument.[]
